HARMONY BAPTIST CHURCH HISTORY
We're an old-style family church following in the 'old paths', singing the great hymns and southern style gospel songs, and preaching from the Authorized King James Bible.
God established the family as the basic building block of society, so the family is at the center of what we do. We focus on growing, encouraging, comforting, and protecting the family as we seek to lift up and honor the Lord Jesus Christ together.
In the early months of 1994, the Lord began to deal with our founding pastor, Vance L. Catlin, about starting an Independent Baptist Church. After much prayer and soul searching, the decision to launch this ministry was made.
The first service of Harmony Baptist Church was held in the garage of the Catlin home on March 6, 1994. On that Sunday, there were 20 adults and 5 children present. Pastor Catlin’s message was taken from Psalm 121:
”I will lift up mine eyes unto the hills, from whence cometh my help. My help cometh from the Lord, which made heaven and earth.”
After meeting in the pastor’s garage for a few weeks, the church rented a county Civic Center and in May of 1994, the church moved into a rented storefront. The growth continued and in April of 1995 the church moved into a larger storefront.
In the early months of 1998 it became evident that still more space was needed, and, in July of 1998 the church was able to purchase 10 acres of property with an existing church building at the current location.
The Lord continued to bless and in April 2001 construction was started on our current sanctuary that will seat just under 300, with services beginning on May 5, 2002.
In January of 2010 construction was begun on a new Harmony Hall for fellowship and classrooms which was completed in April 2012.
